While some client requests are small and can be incorporated into the project without much grief, others can greatly affect the project (Russell, 2009). It is important that there is a change management process defined in the project charter to determine into which of the two camps project change requests fall. If it turns out that requested changes will greatly affect the project’s budget, resource and/or schedule the impact of such should be clearly presented to the client, as they are the ones with the checkbook, to let them make the decision on whether they would like to either like offer more resources or save the change for a future edition. However I guess it is best not to suggest the bride save her change request for red roses for her NEXT wedding.

Russell, L (2009, Sept). Project Scope: Dealing with Scope Creep. After having been a bridesmaid for a bride whose flowers were just "not right" on the day of the wedding, I can only imagine how stressful this could be for the floral designer as well! Of course, this is because "scope creep" is just the pejorative name given to the natural process by which the client discovers what they REALLY want (Suresh, 2005). While it seems as though you have taken all the necessary risk precautions, such as time management and strong communication with all stakeholders, in terms of a wedding, I think there is always the risk the bride will not be happy-even if you move heaven and earth trying to ensure that they are! Remember, the bride is always right-no matter how wrong she many times she may change her mind!

Suresh, B. (2005, January). Scope creep is not only inevitable-it's natural. In many of our resources, we have learned that open communication is crucial in the overall success of a project. In fact this week Dr. Stolovich again reminded us of keeping continuous communication with our team and clients. (Stolovich, n.d.). With recently being married, I know that I appreciated the updates and knowing that I was welcome to come in or call whenever I felt like I needed to. "A projects life cycle measures project completing as a function of either time (schedule) or resources (budget)" (Portny, Mantel, Meredith, Shafer, Sutton & Kramer, 2008; p. 76). The Bright Hub site does do a fine job of working through these five phases of project lives. As we learned in "Introduction to Instructional Design," there are several modules to use throughout the the design process, such as ADDIE, and as it is the preference of the instructional designer as to which module will be used, it is the preference of the project manager as to which template he or she may chose to follow in project management, if any. However, knowing your options is half the battle of remaining organized throughout the project duration, and organization helps build success!Theresa Younghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10312232041330196420noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7107443681603293586.post-46376080052082672302012-11-18T13:30:49.956-08:002012-11-18T13:30:49.956-08:00Jen

When you try to effectively communicate with other stakeholders on the project, you should try to maintain professionalism. Your tone, attitude, body language, work selection, and timing could influence your communication Stolovitch (n.d.). This week's assignment activity really opened my eyes to how various methods of communication can be interpreted. Whatever form communications take, however, you should plan and prepare so their messages are received and correctly interpreted by project audiences (Portny, Mantel, Meredith Shafer, Sutton, & Kramer, 2008). I agree as well with face-to-face communication is the most adequate and it expresses your message clearly and the receiver gains a clear understanding. As convienient as emails and text messages are, sometimes the words just don’t come across as effectively as they do when mixed with body language and facial expressions of the one delivering the message. As human beings, we are social beings, and while we can hide our feelings behind computer screens in an attempt to be professional and polite, when body language is combined with our words, the message can take on a whole new meaning. As instructional designers, and as people, we get one chance to make a first impression, and it is important to chose our words as carefully as we chose our actions in order to make it a positive experience for everyone. It is difficult to put this situation in context because we really do not know the history behind the message. Has there been early communication, is Mark lagging? The F2F conversation made it seem the least urgent so my interpretation changed as the modes of communication changed. Gerribo (2011) cites the following barriers to implementing organizational change in an educational institution and I would venture to say non-educational organizations as well: inefficient leadership and leadership strategies, ineffective communication, unclear processes and procedures, lack of involvement of all parties involved, resistance from employees, and improper or ineffective management of resources. All of these barriers seem to be at play in this situation. It also appears that the project manager, if there is in fact a project manager, did not take a systematic approach to the implementation of the CC curriculum. The analysis that would have been done had this approach been taken would have at the very least uncovered to some extent, maybe not completely, what kind of training and information the teachers would need to get started.
Resources
Geribo, J (2011). The administrators continue to inform teachers that CC is a process that well are switching our gears to implement, but it won't be an over night process. I agree with you that when you implement something new, you need to provide a clear guided plan, provide Q & A sessions (communication), and most importantly have all the resources and materials ready. Change is different and can be difficult, but it's up to the PM, or in your case the administrator to make sure all parts are in place for a smooth transition.
